even there
your hand will hold me fast
In the darkness I cannot outrun
Where the shadow hides the sun
And wails of terror echo in the air
Even there…
When the fingers of death coldly loom
My body becoming a tomb
The place where all within me is laid bare
Even there… your right hand holds me.
When I beg for the dawn of tomorrow
Panting for hope in the sorrow
If I say, “Surely all is lost beyond repair.”
Even there…
As my teardrops mingle with blood
And I wonder if you are still good
When my lips can offer you no words of prayer
Even there... your mercy follows me.
When joyous dreams are taken
And my faith is harshly shaken
When my questions hang unanswered in the air
Even there…
In the valley’s path of sadness
Where affliction dims my gladness
When the workings of your hand seem so unfair
Even there... you prepare a table for me.
In the midnight groans of grieving
In the depth of guttural weeping
When above are darkened clouds of despair
Even there…
When suffering veils your face
And I must sit and wait on your grace
Enduring waves of torment everywhere
Even there… you counsel me.
Hemmed in behind and before
Encompassed about evermore
Above and beneath all the pain I bear
Even there...
Covered by your wing
Withheld from no good thing
Wounded but yet safe in arms of care
A hiding place of rest
Where you only give your best
In the hollow of your hand, you keep me there
Even there…
Your kindness far surpassing; upheld by love everlasting
And promises of morning joy you share
Your presence...with me… there… even there.
